Find duplicate Playwright tests with semantic-graph
semantic-graph is a free, open-source CLI from TestChimp. It scans your Playwright-style test files, embeds each test, clusters them by meaning and opens a local graph, so you can see which tests overlap before your suite gets slower and harder to maintain.
What it does
- Scans *.spec and *.test files written with test() and test.describe().
- Embeds every test and measures how similar each pair is.
- Groups related tests into named clusters on a 2D map, so near-duplicates sit next to each other.
- Serves a local UI with a folder tree and the graph. No database, and nothing is stored between runs.
- Works with OpenAI, or with Claude plus Voyage for embeddings.
Install and run
export PROVIDER=openai
export API_KEY=sk-...
npx @testchimp/semantic-graph visualize --tests-dir ./testsUsing Claude? Set PROVIDER=anthropic, put your Anthropic key in API_KEY and add a VOYAGE_API_KEY for embeddings. The CLI prints a local URL (port 3859 by default) when the graph is ready.
More open-source tools
- ai-wrightVision-based ai.act, ai.verify and ai.extract steps inside standard Playwright tests.
Keep your suite free of duplicates as it grows
semantic-graph gives you a one-off local view. TestChimp runs duplicate detection continuously, alongside requirement traceability and release checks, so your suite stays healthy as agents add tests.
